Coimbatore, March 22, 2025: A section of Pankaja Mills Road in Coimbatore has caved in once again, prompting authorities to shut down the road for urgent repairs. The repeated collapses have raised concerns over the durability of the road’s underground infrastructure, affecting traffic and commuter safety.
Recurring Issue Raises Concerns
This is not the first time the road has caved in. A similar incident occurred weeks ago, reportedly due to a damaged underground drainage (UGD) pipeline. Despite previous repairs, the road surface has collapsed again, pointing to possible structural weaknesses or incomplete restoration efforts.
Repair Work Underway
Officials from the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) have begun excavation to assess the extent of damage. Engineers are working on replacing the damaged UGD pipeline and reinforcing the affected stretch to prevent future incidents.
A CCMC official stated, “We are working to ensure a permanent solution. The repairs include a complete overhaul of the affected drainage system to prevent further cave-ins.”

Traffic Diversions in Place
With the road closed for repairs, authorities have issued alternative routes for commuters. Traffic is being redirected via Puliyakulam Road, and drivers are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid delays.

Public Concerns and Accountability
Local residents and commuters have expressed frustration over the repeated collapses, questioning the quality of previous repairs. Many are demanding a long-term solution rather than temporary fixes.
Authorities have assured that the current repair work will focus on strengthening the road’s foundation, and additional inspections will be carried out to prevent similar incidents in the future.-AirMedia Broadcast
